Measure before adding
Oil, avocado, cream, butter and nuts concentrate energy. Adding several fat sources to a shake can greatly change calories without a similar increase in protein. Use the specified amount; adding more does not make the recipe more appropriate for your goal.
Read more than the carbohydrates
Compare saturated fat as well as total fat. Cream, butter and coconut oil are not nutritionally interchangeable with all other fats. If LDL cholesterol rises during a dietary change, it deserves assessment.
Use suitable cookware and avoid burning oil. Protect oils, seeds and nuts from heat and light; discard anything that smells rancid.
- Measure oil with a teaspoon or scale.
- Count dressings, butter and cream within the recipe.
- Check saturated fat and sodium in sauces and cheeses.
