Start with the serving
Check serving size and servings per container. Eating twice the amount doubles the listed nutrients. The label’s serving describes a reference amount; it is not necessarily your personal recommendation.
Then review the contents
Look at total carbohydrates, protein, saturated fat, sodium and calories. Added sugars and total sugars are different. Sugars are part of carbohydrates; do not add them again.
- 1. Identify grams or milliliters per serving.
- 2. Calculate how many servings you will actually use.
- 3. Review total carbohydrates and fiber.
- 4. Compare protein, energy, saturated fat and sodium.
- 5. Read ingredients and allergens; compare equivalent amounts.
A kitchen example
If a beverage lists 4 g of carbohydrate per 200 ml and you use 300 ml, it contributes 6 g before other ingredients. Using Zero Carb protein does not make the other ingredients zero.
